Installing
the waterproofing system
On Monday morning they started the
waterproofing. A crew of five guys came in with jackhammers
and
began making a foot-wide trench around the perimeter of the entire
basement. If you look closely you can see the guy with the jackhammer.
They used these buckets to carry out
the rubble.
There was a LOT of rubble.
Three truck loads worth!
A shot of the trench.
Then they installed the waterproofing
system - which consistes of a large steel drain around the perimeter of
the basement, and a waterproof barrier on the walls. It keeps
any
water from entering the basement, and any water that comes in through
the walls runs down the back of the waterproof barrier in the drains
(which drain into the sump pump). Look how much nicer the
walls
look!

Here's
a shot of the walls before...

And after!
Before...
and after! We were really
happy with how much cleaner it looks.
In addition to the waterproofing,
they also did some structural work. Including these I-beams
which will ensure that this wall does not bow.
We also had some roofwork done this
week.
And got a couple of new gutters in the front of the house.

On to the next "do-it-ourselves"
project... The closet.
